The neurosurgical team at the Advanced Center for Neurology and Neurosurgery of Hospital Regional de Santa Maria performed, this week, its first functional neurosurgery procedure involving the placement of a deep brain implant for the treatment of Parkinson’s disease.
The procedure was carried out with the participation of renowned functional neurosurgeon Dr. Paulo Francischini. Dr. Rodrigo Tavares, head of the neurosurgery service, also followed the surgery.
This milestone reinforces CEANNE Santa Maria’s commitment to the development of high-complexity neurosurgical care and to the expansion of specialized treatment options for patients with neurological diseases.
